About East Lothian

East Lothian is one of Scotland’s fastest growing council areas. Home to more than 100,000 people, the county is renowned for the richness of its local communities and their proud history.

East Lothian is well known for its golden beaches, rolling countryside, excellent food and drink and award-winning attractions including a plethora of acclaimed golf courses. East Lothian borders the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and Scottish Borders council areas.

Employing around 4,800 people and with 22 elected councillors, East Lothian Council provides a wide range of public services to local residents. It works with partner organisations and local communities to deliver on its vision, set out in the 2017-22 East Lothian Council Plan, to:
